Dr. George Kalpadakis

Dr. George Kalpadakis is a senior researcher at the Academy of Athens (MGHRC) and a visiting professor at the University of Vienna (BMGS). He is a special adviser to the United Nations’ Special Rapporteur on the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order (OHCHR). His research interests include conflict resolution, regional cooperation, institution building, and regulatory governance. He has published four monographs as well as numerous articles and policy papers, and his latest book on the Cyprus dispute is currently under publication (Routledge). He was a Lewis-Gibson Fellow at the University of Cambridge (CCGS) and a Fulbright grantee as a visiting scholar at Harvard University (CES). He has held various advisory positions, including as coordinator of the Government Council on Economic Policy, chief of staff of the Deputy Prime Minister as well as of the Minister of Finance of the Hellenic Republic, special adviser to the chairman of the subcommittee on the European Social Charter (ESC) of the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (CoE/PA), and an analyst at the Chairmanship of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). He has been a lecturer at the faculties of political science and law at the universities of Crete and Thrace as well as a Research Fellow at the Hellenic Center for European Studies (MFA/EKEM), and is currently an affiliate researcher at the Austrian Institute for International Affairs (ÖIIP). He studied at University College London, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and the University of Athens.
